SATD: An Overview
The Scholarships and Advanced Training Division (SATD) acts as a selection and review committee and works towards the implementation of procedures to equip successful candidates to take up their awards. This division functions under the Ministry of Education. It administers scholarships and long-term technical assistance awards to eligible students. To be eligible you need to be a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago and should not have residency status in any other country. It is essential that you are medically and physically fit to complete the academic requirements. An acceptance or application to an accredited or recognized educational institution is required to process the request for scholarships.
Maintenance of Scholarships
Students are required to abide by the obligations specified to maintain their scholarship. A minimum GPA of 2.5 or equivalent per academic year is essential and transcripts need to be submitted to their Scholar Support Officer periodically. Medical leave can be applied in required cases with documented proof. Scholarships may be extended in case of a situation that is out of the candidate’s control, as per the policy. As a recipient of scholarships in Trinidad and Tobago, you will have a contractual obligation to serve the Government upon completion of your academic program. The duration of this service depends on the cost of scholarship, and it ranges from one to five years. The employment programs like Associate Professional (AP) and Professional Development Program (PDP) aim to function as an avenue for national scholars to assume future leadership roles.
Choose the Right Program
You need a certificate from an ACTT accredited institution to pursue your career goals. Consider the credentials and academic achievements of the college, as it will help you to maintain the expected standards of your education. The colleges that offer specific student support activities such as induction programs, academic writing sessions, tutorials, study schools, online support and such resources will be great assistance to you. The most important consideration is the teaching strategy which should be innovative in order to cater to the unique and diverse needs of learner groups.
